The new champion Ornn is still struggling to find a niche as Top, Jungle, or Support, but I'm putting him as a top laner for now. His kit and numbers aren't particular spectacular, but his super low win rate seems to indicate that his special shop may be causing some poor itemization choices from his teammates...

Preface Chatter
Howdy folks, and welcome to the fashionably late tier list for Patch 7.17. This time around, roaming mid-laners are more in season than ever before, with the likes of Talon and Kassadin showing up big on the rift. Meanwhile, Kayn's settling into a niche, and is quickly becoming the new Lee Sin of the jungle with his powerful early game plays and amazing gank angles. The new champion Ornn is still struggling to find a niche as Top, Jungle, or Support, but I'm putting him as a top laner for now. Instructions and Caveats:
- Champions in BOLD I will talk about shortly
- Champions UNDERLINEDmay be over/undervalued, but aren't/haven't played enough for me to make a better judgment.
- Within each tier, the champions are strongest from left to right, but within a tier each champion's strength is relatively close. This is especially true for Tiers 2 and 3 where these champions are ALL highly playable and player dependent on how strong they are in-game.
- Win Rates are important in analyzing each champion's strength but are not the end-all criteria for any champion's position.
- Professional Picks may not necessarily translate into good picks for solo queue ladder, the two have slightly different meta-games and skill levels.
- The creator of this list is diamond, so there may be some personal bias towards higher tier play on certain champions.
Champion Explanations
- Aatrox [Tier 2 Top] - Aatrox is currently played so little that he's actually dropped off most statistical sites including champion.gg and op.gg as a champion. Despite that, he's not even that weak, especially compared to Ornn in his current state. That being said, I think he's playable as a top laner, and capable of dishing out some surprising plays. Then again, considering nobody's seen him on the rift for ages, anything he does could be surprising.
- Ahri [Tier 1 Mid] - Ahri's decline this last patch seems largely a result of higher presence from duskblade wielding assassins coupled with an influx of some of her other heaviest counters. She's certainly still a very strong champion however, and this should keep her off the nerf bat for a bit.
- Kassadin [God Tier Mid] - In his current state, Kassadin works well as a strong roaming assassin that trades well in lane and works well as a late-game hypercarry. He's very safe and can consistently snowball games, but just needs to be a bit safer pre-6 to prevent from getting camped by the enemy jungler.
- Kayn [Tier 1 Jungle] - As a ganker, Kayn's potential angles are incredibly good from getting in without being spotted. If he can get an early lead and quick duskblade, he can snowball each lane before team fighting comes up. However, if he plays relatively evenly, he ends up doing poorly during late-game team fights as enemy carries bring him to their peel during Kayn's ultimate. He plays a little similar to Lee Sin in this respect, and to succeed consistently with him you still need to be a good jungler instinct-wise.
- Ornn [Tier 3 Top] - Ornn seems a bit underpowered at the moment, and putting him on the team often makes your teammates consider rushing the upgraded items that he provides in the shop. This is often not the best choice in terms of gold efficiency and ends up with his team wasting gold on items of scaling value too early in the game. As a laner he's not all that bad, but putting him in your game simply makes your teammates do some sub-optimal things.
- Sivir [Tier 1 Marksman] - Sivir in her current state is interesting. Professional players know that her main power lies in her ability to auto-attack minions to bounce her damage onto teams via her Ricochet (W). However, many solo queue players end up building things like Statikk Shiv and one-shotting the minion wave, greatly reducing her ability to attack the enemy team at a safe range and instead relying on her extremely short auto range for damage.
- Sona [God Tier Support] - There's a lot of hate on Sona as a result of her lack of early game crowd-control and high mana costs on her heal. However, her mid to late game becomes absolutely absurd, and her ability to AOE proc Ardent Censer ends up incredibly good in team fights.
- Talon [God Tier Mid] - Talon's continuously putting out incredible numbers lately as a result of his synergy with Duskblade. While his trading power has always been excellent, his trading power post Duskblade simply becomes known as assassinating power. His roaming is also comparable to Kassadin and Kayn's, and can snowball games quickly.
- Tristana [God Tier Marksman] - Tristana's found a lot of success lately ever since Caitlyn was nerfed. She plays similarly in lane as an offensive marksman, and is an excellent counter to Draven via her ultimate's ability to make him misposition an axe.
- The purpose of this list is for discussion and to provide a starting point for champion selection.
