Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines as we gear up to the official start of Season 7! To start things off, the Rylai nerf certainly sent mid-lane into a tailspin, and things at the top are starting to look a lot different from what we remember at the end of Season 6.
Meanwhile, the Colossus and Fervor changes are also changing the meta in some unexpected ways. It's still early in the patch though, so we'll keep a close eye on things as they progress. Stay tuned for more updates in the upcoming days, and check back soon to stay armed with the freshest game knowledge possible!

Instructions and Caveats:
- Champions in BOLD I will talk about shortly
- Champions UNDERLINEDmay be over/undervalued, but aren't/haven't played enough for me to make a better judgment.
- Within each tier, the champions are strongest from left to right, but within a tier each champion's strength is relatively close. This is especially true for Tiers 2 and 3 where these champions are ALL highly playable and player dependent on how strong they are in-game.
- Win Rates are important in analyzing each champion's strength but are not the end-all criteria for any champion's position.
- Professional Picks may not necessarily translate into good picks for solo queue ladder, the two have slightly different meta-games and skill levels.
- The creator of this list is diamond, so there may be some personal bias towards higher tier play on certain champions.
Champion Explanations
- Azir [Tier 3 Mid] - The Emperor is BACK! Unfortunately, he's not all the way back...despite getting a small buff, this patch also brought a nerf to his core (Rylai). As a result, he's just as dismal as he was last patch, if not more so. Although he can still be strong if he gets ahead, most of the time he's just not worth the trouble.
- Brand [Tier 1 Mid] - Some people were hyping up the changes to Rylai as a major buff to Brand. However, Brand is a champion that is reliant on the Rylai slow to guarantee his stun landing. As a result of the reduced slow on his core, players are starting to miss more key stuns at clutch moments, resulting in a slightly poorer performance.
- Kled [Tier 1 Top] - The new Fervor buff works quite well on Kled as a result of his Violent Tendencies passive, which boosts his attack speed coupled with a final attack execute at the end based on his bonus AD. He was always quite tanky, but now he has the damage to back it up as well.
- Kog'Maw (AP) [Tier 3 Mid] - I guess we can't abuse AP Kog'Maw mid after all...after dropping both the base damage on Void Ooze (E) and the AP ratio from 0.7 to 0.5, he's largely incapable of clearing waves efficiently now.
- Leblanc [God Tier Mid] - Despite the tweaks to Leblanc this patch, now that players have learned how to play her as more of a sustained damage mage than a burst mage, she's doing incredibly well in solo queue.
- Lee Sin [Tier 1 Jungle] - Although Krugs were nerfed this patch, Lee is still quite strong in the new jungle. As a result, I'm leaving him where he is. We'll see how heavily he was affected as the patch goes on.
- Malzahar [Tier 1 Mid] - Losing the stats on Rylai's actually hurt Malzahar quite a bit. The 40% slow was a quick and easy way to get a hard engage off if an enemy stepped too close to a minion wave.
- Nasus [Tier 2 Mid] - Although Nasus is certainly very good at laning, he's definitely still more of an unorthodox pick. As a result, his kiting playstyle doesn't lend itself to the straight-forward burst most players expect out of their mid laner. See this article for more details!
- Singed [Tier 1 Top] - Arguably the biggest winner when it comes to the Rylai changes, Singed is incredibly potent right now. at 40% slow with the old Rylai, enemy champions would quickly lose hope and give up chasing him. However, at 20% Singed is always just close enough that enemies try valiantly to catch the mad scientist. Meanwhile, the reduced cost definitely helps him snowball faster to his tank items.
- Soraka [God Tier Support] - The double whammy nerf to Rylai's and Colossus made a lot of the other supports that counter Soraka weaker. As a result, Soraka is now stronger as a result.
- Twisted Fate [God Tier Mid] - Twisted Fate has always been an incredibly good solo queue champion. Now that Rylai's is nerfed this patch, I think he's ready to be moved up to God Tier as a result of the pure havoc he can wreck on enemy teams and his super safe laning phase.
- Vayne [Tier 1 Marksman] - The nerf to her tumble reverted her back to her original state before she became the beast she was in Patch 6.17 onwards. Now, her mid-game is much more manageable and keeps her from snowballing into late game with ease.
- The purpose of this list is for discussion and to provide a starting point for champion selection.
