Hey everyone! Hope everyone's having a great month so far. We're halfway through to the end of the year, so it's time to step it up into high gear and gain that sweet LP before the end of the season. You may also have noticed that the title of this solo queue tier list has been updated to Ranked Dynamic Queue instead. Since solo queue is no longer really solo, I figured this would be more accurate.
This current patch opened up a TON of marksmen to viability after Lucian's nerfs, and Volibear finally received recognition for the powerhouse that he is. Ryze and Azir are also sufficiently nerfed that we probably won't see more on the horizon. Check out the full list below!

Instructions and Caveats:
- Champions in BOLD I will talk about shortly
- Champions UNDERLINEDmay be over/undervalued, but aren't/haven't played enough for me to make a better judgement.
- Within each tier the champions are strongest from left to right, but within a tier each champion's strength is relatively close. This is especially true for Tiers 2 and 3 where these champions are ALL highly playable and player dependent on how strong they are in-game.
- This tier list takes data from ALL players; however, since the majority of players fall in the first three tiers, the majority of data points will come from there.
- Win Rates are important in analyzing each champion's strength, but are not the end-all criteria for any champion's position.
- The creator of this list is diamond, so there may be some personal bias towards higher tier play on certain champions.
Champion Explanations
- Ashe [God Tier Marksman] - Nerfs to Lucian left a void for marksmen to fill, and Ashe is currently in a decent position to close that gap. Her playstyle is vastly different, and plays more as a utility/control marksman. However, as one of the few marksmen that can reliably self-initiate, she works well in lane considering kill supports like Zyra are so strong now.
- Azir [Tier 2 Mid] - The nerfs to Azir definitely left the emperor lacking in certain categories. However, I would not say he is unplayable by any means, and retains his lane-bully status during laning phase. The major change this patch is the reduction to his wall, which was always a very frustrating mechanic. Nevertheless, I think he's still very viable if you enjoy playing him.
- Irelia [God Tier Top] - The latest changes to Trinity force definitely left a few champions like Gangplank weaker than last patch. However, by shifting Trinity Force's critical hit chance to attack speed, this change buffed Irelia quite a bit. A purely auto attack reliant-champion with her Hiten Style, Irelia was already impossible to trade with prior to this patch. Now, with the latest changes, her mid to late-game dominance just moved up a bit on the timeline.
- Maokai [Tier 2 Top] - The nerfs to Maokai's Q drastically reduced his waveclear and harassing power in lane. He's still playable, but his laning phase is much more difficult, especially with Irelia and Swain hanging out up there.
- Miss Fortune [God Tier Marksman] - Originally developed to counter Lucian, Miss Fortune's similarly tanky + armor shredding build is touted as being on par, if not better than Lucian's. However, now that Lucian's been nerfed, Miss Fortune is looking unstoppable during early to mid-game. More details on that in this article.
- Nidalee [Tier 1 Jungle] - Nidalee's still a very strong jungler at higher divisions, but for most players there are better choices now.
- Rammus [Tier 2 Top] - After nerfs to tank items, Rammus has never been the same. He really finds more success in the jungle, and only made it to the top lane for a brief period while Sunfire and Iceborn Gauntlet were overpowered. Although he's still very viable as counterpick to certain AD heavy teams, he just offers a bit less in the way of trinity force synergy.
- Ryze [Tier 2 Mid/Top] - Nerfs to Ryze's late game and early game leave him in a vulnerable position if he does not snowball through the early game. As a result, good Ryze players can still do very well with him, but bad starts no longer allow Ryze to still 100 to 0 squishies with just a tear.
- Swain [God Tier Top/Mid] - I was a little late to the Swain train in fear of jumping the gun, but it's definitely here and Swain is certainly chugging along, despite the minor nerfs from this patch. He does a massive amount of damage, and all the item changes help him tremendously, especially on Rod of Ages and Zhonya's Hourglass.
- Taliyah [Tier 2 Mid] - After the latest buffs to Toph, she's definitely doing much better than before. Most people generally take her mid lane rather than in any of the other positions, and she's solidifying herself as a decent poke mage and roamer. However, I certainly don't think she's overpowered by any means now.
- Volibear [God Tier Jungle] - After patch after patch of strong play rate and win rate, it is hard to chalk Volibear's success to just a fluke. After the price increase on Morellonomicon, he only got stronger, since it was an indirect buff to his passive. As an excellent front line with good synergy with Strength of Ages (arguably the strongest jungle mastery now), Volibear is an excellent pick that can snowball very hard into the late game.
- Zyra [God Tier Support] - The damage output that Zyra puts out at the moment is ludicrous. Her mana costs are also low enough that she can consistently stay on the offensive, and turn around jungle ganks while simultaneously zoning out the enemy laners with her plants. Her strongest build (Liandry's + Rylai's) also makes her tanky for a squishy spellcaster, resulting in exceedingly high burst damage on a difficult-to-kill mage that specializes in kiting.
