Hey everyone and welcome to the latest solo queue tier list update! Juggernauts are still dominating the rift, but a few second tier juggernauts (aka the ones without reworks) are starting to see some benefit from the new tank items as well.
Meanwhile, nerfs on a lot of the OPs and the Devourer enchant dropped some Patch 5.17 favorites down a notch, but just as many remain extraordinarily powerful.

Instructions and Caveats:
- Champions in BOLD I will talk about shortly
- Champions UNDERLINEDmay be over/undervalued, but aren't/haven't played enough for me to make a better judgement.
- Within each tier the champions are strongest from left to right, but within a tier each champion's strength is relatively close. This is especially true for Tiers 2 and 3 where these champions are ALL highly playable and player dependent on how strong they are in-game.
- This tier list takes data from ALL players; however, since the majority of players fall in the first three tiers, the majority of data points will come from there.
- Win Rates are important in analyzing each champion's strength, but are not the end-all criteria for any champion's position.
- The creator of this list is diamond, so there may be some personal bias towards higher tier play on certain champions.
Champion Explanations
- Ahri [God Tier Mid] - Although Ahri isn't the highest damage dealer or the easiest champion to use, her consistency is still extremely high as a result of the utility at her disposal. With three charges on her ultimate, she can quickly attempt a pick and reposition on failure, or follow up even if they flash. This combined with the fact that her movespeed boost on her Q makes it very easy for her to dodge skillshots allows her to stay safe even as a close range assassin, sporting one of the lowest damage taken stats in mid lane.
- Caitlyn [Tier 1 ADC] - Despite having a relatively minor buff this time around, Caitlyn is slowly coming into power. With Vayne constantly on the rise and juggernauts dominating the rift, the ability to take down enemies from long range is more important than ever. Luckily, Caitlyn excels at this. Although her late game isn't exactly descriptive of a "hyper carry", she more than makes up with it with strong early to mid-game pressure.
- Fiora [Tier 1 Top] - After nerfs to Fiora, she remains a strong contender top lane. However, she's definitely not as overwhelming as before. At the moment it seems that she's borderline balanced on the stronger side, and may be worth looking into as a main she's starting to get banned less frequently.
- Galio [Tier 2 Mid] - Somewhat of a sleeper champion, Galio is actually very strong right now as long as he's fighting an AP based champion. He's very well rounded with both poke and all-in capabilities, and extremely tanky to boot. His main weakness is that he is still somewhat cooldown reliant on his ultimate, without which he's not nearly as scary.
- Garen [God Tier Top] - Even with the nerfs to Garen this patch, he remains extremely powerful and simple to pick up as a champion.
- Jarvan IV [Tier 1 Top] - Jarvan IV is making a strong comeback as a second tier juggernaut. He benefits from the Sterak's Gage addition, and definitely works well as a tanky bruiser with excellent waveclear, initiation, and utility.
- Kayle [Tier 1 Jungle] - You would think that the nerfs to Devourer would put Kayle back in her place. However, it seems that the nerfs didn't hit her nearly as hard as some of the other devourer junglers. The reason for this is that most of her damage comes from her other on-hit effects and items, not just the sated bonus.
- Lux [God Tier Mid] - Lux is very strong right now, and for some reason see almost zero bans in her direction. Although she's indeed "outplayable" due to her skills all being skillshots, the range and cooldown on her skills make teamfights an absolute terror with her multiple CCs and massive AOE damage from long-range.
- Malphite [God Tier Top] - With the number of AD based top laners in play right now coupled with devourer junglers dominating the rift, Malphite's natural armor based builds and attack speed reduction are the perfect counter to nearly everything on the rift. While it may not seem like he's that dominant in lane, when it comes to teamfights he's absolutely game-changing.
- Mordekaiser [God Tier ADC] - Again, Mordekaiser SEEMS to be doing exceedingly well bot lane when he makes it through the banning phase. Although it's hard to judge his actual strength, he definitely forces picks to be made around him on the enemy team, leading us to the conclusion that his win rate is reflective of his impact on the game.
- Rammus [Tier 1 Jungle] - Dead Man's Plate is surprisingly extremely effective on Rammus, and allows him to be even more potent at catching out enemy players than he was before.
- Shyvana [Tier 2 Jungle] - The devourer nerfs seem to hurt her much more than most, especially since she's lacking in CC prevalent in most other junglers. As a completely damage based champion, nerfs to damage are basically nerfs to her entire kit.
- Soraka [God Tier Support] - Soraka is extremely powerful right now due to Zeke's Harbringer and Ardent Censer. With the extra AP provided by the items, her heals are even more potent than before and impact fights extremely hard. As long as she can keep herself alive, it becomes extremely difficult to take down her teammates as a result of her ratios.
- Tahm Kench [Tier 2 Support] - Tahm Kench is fast becoming the new Thresh of bot lane. An extremely complex champion requiring a lot of coordination, a few games against a fed Tahm Kench quickly result in people picking him up as a new main, only to discover that he's much harder than it looked when he was crushing them in the previous game.
- Twisted Fate [Tier 1 Mid] - At higher divisions, Twisted Fate is absolutely dominating the rift in solo queue. In lower divisions, you do run a higher gambit of ulting into your teammates running away. However, his damage and utility are definitely at a higher level than most other mid laners at the moment, at least until assassins start making a full blown come-back midlane.
- Urgot [Tier 3 Top] - After an explosion in popularity a few months back, Urgot's back to his normal lovable, nearly unplayable self. With juggernauts simply shrugging off his damage, it's become more difficult than ever for him to stay relevant, even after snowballing.
- Vayne [Tier 1 ADC] - Vayne is in a great spot right now and extremely strong in the current meta. If she can either snowball or make it to late game, she's excellent. However, if she dies a lot early on (which is very possible), she quickly becomes a non-factor with her short range and close-range fighting requirements.
- Veigar [Tier 1 Mid] - The newest addition of assists granting AP to Veigar seem to be helping him tremendously. More info on that FOTM report here.
- Xin Zhao [God Tier Jungle] - Xin Zhao is currently one of the strongest junglers in the game, even after the devourer nerfs. Although he's not far and away THE best jungler, he performs extremely well at all stages of the game. Being one of the few devourer junglers who can successfully gank starting from level 2, he has a huge lead over the other ones who need to be fully sated or level 6 before they can impact the game.
