Instructions and Caveats:
- Champions in BOLD I will talk about shortly
- Champions UNDERLINEDmay be over/undervalued, but aren't/haven't played enough for me to make a better judgment.
- Within each tier, the champions are strongest from left to right, but within a tier each champion's strength is relatively close. This is especially true for Tiers 2 and 3 where these champions are ALL highly playable and player dependent on how strong they are in-game.
- Win Rates are important in analyzing each champion's strength but are not the end-all criteria for any champion's position.
- Professional Picks may not necessarily translate into good picks for solo queue ladder, the two have slightly different meta-games and skill levels.
- The creator of this list is diamond, so there may be some personal bias towards higher tier play on certain champions.
Champion Explanations
- Brand [Tier 1 Support] - As the meta slowly starts shifting back towards tankier top laners, Brand is making his comeback as a kill-lane support. Meanwhile, sustain supports continue to lose favor for more offensive based ones like Rakan and Morgana. This results in an objectively "better" Brand. The fact that he's one of the few supports in the game that can even think about making a dent in Dr. Mundo also h elps.
- Camille [God Tier Top] - Camille has proven herself to be resilient to the changing meta time and again. Being one of Irelia's few bad match-ups is also great for her cause, and she performs equally well against melee as ranged lane opponents.
- Dr. Mundo [God Tier Top] - The latest buffs to Dr. Mundo were a bit of a what the f moment. Moving his level three healing from 60% to 100% represents a 67% buff to his health regen, which is only further amplified by Spirit Visage. Overall, he's just a bit too incredibly tanky.
- Dr. Mundo [Tier 1 Jungle] - Similar to Dr. Mundo as a top laner, Dr. Mundo as a jungler is almost as bad. He's a bit more hampered by his weaker than average ganking pattern, but access to Cinderhulk allows him to make even greater use of his ultimate buff.
- Graves [God Tier Jungle] - Surprisingly, no nerf on Graves this time around. Instead, he continues to dominate the Rift without mercy. The fact that they nerfed Warwick also made him a stronger in comparison when it comes to top tier junglers.
- Kayle [Tier 1 Top] - Kayle's top lane playrate is nearly non-existent right now. However, that doesn't mean that she's weak by any means, and can easily cheese her way to an absurd powerlevel via the current state of Guinsoo's Rageblade. I'd say she's a bit of a sleeper OP right now.
- Talon [Tier 1 Mid] - The new Talon range buff puts him back in range to actually get to his opponents. Although it was a bug fix, it was a sizable one.
- Zed [God Tier Mid] - Zed was never an "easy to play" champion. However, over the years players have gotten so used to his kit that he's started becoming an average level champion to play at a usable level. Without god-like reflexes, Zed can still be appropriately strong as an average mid-laner. You can play him casually and still be highly effective in solo queue, and the current meta favors an all-in type playstyle. As a result, although he's difficult to play at the pinnacle of perfection, for most players just doing okay results in a solid all-around champion that strikes fear into enemies as soon as champion select goes down.
- The purpose of this list is for discussion and to provide a starting point for champion selection.
